The 24th Informal Meeting on Mass Spectrometry will take place at Hotel Muflon in Ustron, Poland from 14th to 18th May 2006.

During this meeting we are going to follow the same guidelines that were used for the organization of the previous IMMS-s. The main goal of the IMMS-s, which makes them different from the other MS conferences, is to give the young scientists an opportunity to present - often for the first time in their life - their results at the international forum and discuss them - in a formal or informal way - with the experienced practitioners in mass spectrometry. To reach this goal the following organizational rules will be followed:

  • To keep the costs of participating in the 24th IMMS at the lowest possible level there will be, as usual, no registration fee. The participants will have only to pay for accommodation and some meals. The other costs will be covered by the sponsors.

  • All participants will be treated in the same way, i.e. there will be no division into 'invited speakers' and the rest of participants - all participants will have to pay for their accommodation, meals and travel.

  • The speakers will have 20 minutes (including discussion) to present their achievements. In our opinion this time is enough to present the most important findings and their literature background. The details could be given directly to the interested colleagues. There will be also a limited number of longer, 30 minutes lectures on especially interesting topics. The selection will be done by the organizing committee.

  • There will be relatively long coffee breaks to allow discussions.

  • We are planning to organize two parallel evening discussions on the following topics:

    • Basic research in mass spectrometry - do we still need it?

    • Mass spectrometry in proteomics - where are we going?

If there will be any other interesting proposals these tentative subjects can be changed.

  • The number of participants will be limited to 120 persons. This should make direct contacts between participants more easy, especially that all, or almost all of them will live in the same hotel in which also the lecture hall and poster sessions will be located.

We hope that on these pages you will find all important information about the 24th IMMS. If not, please don't hesitate to contact directly the Organizing Committee. We are open also for any proposals and suggestions that can improve the quality of our meeting.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 24th IMMS,

Sincerely yours,

Witold Danikiewicz
